ASA Supports Domestic Livestock Industries

Communicating The Importance Of Domestic Swine & Poultry Production

ASA is encouraging all leaders and state affiliates to develop and distribute communications designed to educate soybean producers about the importance of domestic swine and poultry production.

Swine and poultry feed accounts for 75 percent of all U.S. domestic soybean meal consumption. That represents more than 1 billion bushels of soybeans, or about 37 percent of the total U.S. soybean crop. (See Soy Stats™ for more information.)

“As swine and poultry producers face a variety of challenges to their industry, soybean producers must appreciate how important these customers are to their own profitability,” said ASA President Dwain Ford. “Since virtually 100 percent of domestic soymeal is processed from U.S. soybeans, we cannot stand idly by as their numbers decrease.”

ASA is kicking off a campaign to educate producers by publishing articles and information that explains the importance of a strong domestic livestock industry. And because “a picture is worth a thousand words,” ASA has developed a hog and a chicken illustration, that are designed to attest to the old adage, “you are what you eat.” These images, and a set of Talking Points, are available here on SoyGrowers.

Both low and high-resolution image files may be downloaded and published free of charge for non-commercial, educational use only by state soybean offices and agricultural media.
