The Philippines is an important export market for U.S. soybean meal. Recognizing the importance of maintaining strong customer ties - the American Soybean Association spends time educating buyers in the Southeast Asia country on ways to maximize U.S. soybeans.

Selpha Trinidad - Animal Nutritionist with Cebu Superior Feedmill in the Philippines - says ASA has conducted numerous seminars to raise awareness and help buyers understand the importance of using U.S. soybean meal. Trinidad says there's no question the availability of U.S. soybean meal has had a positive impact on the growth of her business.

But in the early two-thousands - Trinidad says use of U.S. soybean meal in the Philippines declined. She says that's partly due to the influx of soybean meal from South America - particularly Argentina and Brazil. Now - Trinidad says purchasers recognize the differences that separate U.S. soybean meal from the rest of the pack.

While animal nutritionists are not the ones making decisions - Trinidad says they should always be able to share the value of U.S. soybean meal and the importance of using a good quality product with the decision makers. Trinidad says the American Soybean Association could play an important role in training nutritionists on how to convince the decision makers in the Philippines to buy U.S. product.
