ASA Praises Senate Passage of Farm Bill
December 14, 2007… Saint Louis, Missouri… The American Soybean
Association (ASA) applauds the U.S. Senate for today’s 79-14 vote
passage of the Farm Bill, which provides support for key soybean
programs.
"Soybean growers appreciate the bi-partisan effort that resulted in
the Senate overwhelmingly approving this omnibus legislation this year,"
said ASA President John Hoffman, a soybean producer from Waterloo, Iowa.
"Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and others
provided vital leadership to pass this bill. We look forward to working
with the Senate and House to reach a timely conclusion to the Farm Bill
debate."
The Senate approval allows for Senate and House members to conference
their respective versions of the Farm Bill. ASA will continue to
champion issues of importance to soybean growers, ranging from target
prices to biodiesel programs and more, including funding for the Quality
Incentive Program to promote production of soybeans with high-stability
oils, which will enable U.S. food companies to
eliminate trans fats without increasing use of unhealthy saturated fats.
ASA is the policy advocate and collective voice of its 22,000
producer-members on domestic and international issues of importance to
all U.S. soybean farmers.
