Farmer Leaders Recognize Planting of One-Billionth Biotech Acre

May 4, 2005... Members of the media are invited to participate in an international news conference on Monday, May 9, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT) in recognition of the planting of the one-billionth acre of biotech-enhanced agricultural commodities in the world. The conference will be held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Ill., and will be accessible by teleconference.

Farmer leaders from American Soybean Association (ASA), National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) and National Cotton Council (NCC) will provide information about the benefits crop biotechnology delivers to producers, consumers and the environment.

Representatives from Truth About Trade and Technology (TATT) will be on hand to talk about a TATT-developed biotech acreage calculator that is counting up to the day of the actual planting of the one-billionth acre, which has been estimated to closely coincide with the date of this news conference.

Gerald Tumbleson, a farmer from Minnesota, Bob Metz, a farmer from South Dakota, Ricardo Serra, a farmer from Spain, and Edwin Yanson Paraluman, a farmer from The Philippines have also been invited to participate via telephone.
