Farm Description:
The Sorrells Family homesteaded this farm which they live on. Earl lives in the same house he was born in in 1928. The house was built around 1898 and bricked in 1934, costing $300. The farm consisted of 200 acres. Earl and Doris’s daughter Jean married David Fuchs in 1973. He joined Earl as a field hand until 1978 at which time he rented the farm consisting of 1,200 acres and feeding cattle. Earl’s father, who operated a trucking business, died in 1976 and Earl took his business over in Raymond. In 1985 he bought the Ralston Purina elevator and operated 12 trucks hauling grain and livestock. Kent Sorrells manages the elevator of 2,000,000 bushels and lives in Raymond with wife Sandy. Daughter Jean helps with the farming and secretary one day a week. Kent served on the Soybean Checkoff Board 6 years and Earl also 6 years. They operate as a family business and Garrett came home from college to help Dave farm over 2,000 acres. Kent helps with selling farm grain as he has 160 acres of crops and manages 2 elevators.
