Farm Description:
We farm 1500 acres at Canton, MS, raising soybeans and corn. My grandfather moved to this farm in 1944, and moved from farming with mules to farming with tractors, cotton pickers, and herbicides during his farming career. He retired in 1968. My father began farming in 1964 and took over the main farm with my grandfather's retirement. I began farming in 1974 after I graduated from Mississippi State University. At that time, cotton was the main crop, along with soybeans. Corn was added in 1999, mainly as a rotation crop for cotton. With cotton prices down and corn and soybeans more profitable, 2006 was the last year cotton was planted. Beginning in 2007, soybeans and corn are our two main crops.
