Farm Description:
Hartke Swine Center is a "Centennial Farm" owned operated by both Phil and Carol Hartke and Dave and Korrie Hartke. The farm was started by Phil's Grandfather Henry Hank more than 100 years ago. The farm was awarded the Centennial Farm designation by Phil's brother, Chuck Hartke, when he was Director of Agriculture for Illinois. Phil and Carol started farming out of high school with 446 acres of corn, soybeans, and wheat, and 100 sows farrow to finish. The farm is now 1,400 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, and milo. We also finish 6500 head of weaner to finish pigs on a market contract with Cargill. In 1998 Dave and Phil began a custom liquid waste management business. Currently we pump 65 to 70,000,000 gallons a year. And in 1999 the farm diversified again by adding 100 head of beef cattle. Dave and Korrie hope to be able to pass this farm on to their children and make it another 100 years.
