Farm Description:
Darling farms celebrated over 175 years in agriculture last year. The Farm is a family partnership of Elgin and Joann Darling, and Doug and Helen Darling. The Farm is located in Monroe county Michigan since 1833. The operation is over 1,400 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. Darlings custom harvests an addition 600 acres of crops in 3 counties. Today, the Darlings 100 percent no-till all the soybeans and wheat. Nearly all the corn is no-till. Darlings have always had seed variety test plots. They have participated in MSU herbicide and insect studies, MSU-soybean association fertilizer studies and other on farm trials. Darlings have annually held field days. Elgin and Doug have tried many of the new technologies over the years, from control droplet spray atomizers to on the go Nitrogen analysis application to GPS. Not everything they tried has worked. They have shared whatever they have learned, the successes and not so successful experiments, with neighbors and friends. The Darlings have served on numerous agricultural boards and advisory committees, and community committees. The families are involved in 4-H and FFA.
